GENEVA, Switzerland (Reuters) -- Two major scientific research centres said on Wednesday they had set a new world speed record for sending data across the Internet, equivalent to transferring a full-length DVD film in seven seconds.
.....
This is more than 20,000 times faster than a typical home broadband connection, and is also equivalent to transferring a 60-minute compact disc within one second -- an operation that takes around eight minutes on standard broadband.
This is totaly pathetic. Not them, ME.

hi,
thats wonderful news but still a long way to go to actually commercialize the technology, at present when i check my speed ( http://www.bandwidthplace.com/ ) i'm getting only 2Mbps speed

this is strange because I upload 700-900 MB AVI files to Megaupload all the time.

most of the time it takes the usual 4-5 hrs at my DSL UL speed (736 Kb/sec).

but there has been a few occasions I was able to completely upload those files in less than 10 secs.

not sure what happen in those instances; I did download those same files to check if they were actually complete and they were.

I bet you this was a re-upload of the same files correct ?
I know what you are saying about MegaUpload, it happened to me a few times as well, but it has nothing to do with the connection speed. My conclusion was that MegaUpload checked the file name/size and found it either fully and/or partially on their server already, and actually sucked it back again hence giving you the impression it was a super fast download. Like everything else, an Internet Connection is only as fast as the slowest/weakest component that creates it, so with absolutely minimal traffic on your ISP side, your numbers will go up, but not double or triple.
Sorry J7, what you see is what you get.....

I probably did not make myself clear, what I am saying is that the times that this "magical" Super Speed upload occured, were instances when the first upload I made either failed or was rejected by MegaUpload due to errors.
As an example, I was performing an upload, the upload completed but I got some kind of error at the end during the file checking stage.
So of course I retried the upload using the same file and description, and presto within a few seconds, Megaupload gave me a link. Like you I tried it to make sure, and everything was fine.
Another was a power failure during an upload, once the power came back on, again using the same file and file description it did the dame thing as above, a couple of seconds then done.

okay now I understand BUT:

the files I uploaded to MU that went ZOOOM, it happened on my first upload attempt and they couldn't had been uploaded already by anyone else already so that still doesn't explain why they went ZOOM.
