And with the addition of activities like Skateboarding and Rhythm Kung Fu, players will be using the Wii Balance Board accessory in a variety of new and fun ways.

Gameplay
As with the original Wii Fit release, Wii Fit Plus is designed, as its name implies, to improve the user's fitness. The game contains a large number of activities that fall into a variety of categories, including: yoga, aerobics, strength training and balance games. With all but a few exceptions, which utilize variations on a standard Wii Remote configuration, all activities utilize the Wii Balance Board (included with this bundle), either alone or configured with either a Wii Remote alone or the Wii Remote and nunchuck. The Balance Board, like any other Wii controller acts as a motion/pressure sensing device wirelessly synched to your Wii and replicating your body's movements. Each controller employed occupies one of the Wii's four wireless inputs, together mapping the reference points needed to recreate most full body motions on screen. Although this limits the majority of the activities to a single player orientation, various activities throughout the game support up to eight players in alternating play.

To use Wii Fit Plus players import their Miis from their Wii system, set up profiles, establish a current physical baseline, set fitness goals, and embark on a routine to reach them. Wii Fit Plus tracks your usage, weight and progress towards your goal over time, giving you a status report as you start each session. At any time players can choose whatever activity they want, whether exercise or balance game, and as they progress in these they will level up in each, gaining points, setting high scores and unlocking more activities.

Personalization Option Via 'The Locker Room'
The original Wii Fit was designed to have something for everyone. Now Wii Fit Plus raises the bar by providing users with personalization options that allow them to find/create a specific workout routine that is exactly right for them, their family and their lifestyle. One example of this is "The Locker Room." Easily accessible throughout the game, here players can choose from a number customizable options that allow them to maximize their time with Wii Fit Plus without having to navigate through the game menu while in the middle of a workout. In essence this allows players to become their own personal trainer. Customization options available within The Locker Room include: preprogrammed and timed Wii Fit Plus Routines; My Routine, where you choose your own set of activities, optimizing their length and area of the body to be focused on; and Favorites, a notation of activities you frequent, which provides fast access to exercises you enjoy doing the most.

Addition Yoga and Strength Exercises
Designed as an addition to the already substantial list of focused, physical exercises available in Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus contains six new and challenging strength and yoga activities. But continuing with the game's commitment to personalization, the key to these additions is not in their volume, but in how the player chooses to mix and match them. Do them in the order they are presented, or combine them in whatever order you want. The choice is yours. The player even has the ability to repeat the ones that he/she prefers, maximizing attention and effort where it is needed most. In addition, for those to whom time is a commodity, you can now omit unnecessary interludes between exercises, making for a continuous, timesaving routine.

A Wealth of New Balance Games
Regardless of the considerable fitness factor packed into Wii Fit Plus, the Nintendo brand is and will always be all about having fun. With that in mind Wii Fit Plus also comes packed with 15 new, entertaining balance games suitable for every member of the family. Just a few of those that players can expect to see are: Juggling; Skateboarding; Snowball Fight; Obstacle Course, a log-leaping, cannonball-evading event reminiscent of what Nintendo icon Mario must go through; and Perfect 10, a balance game designed to promote a combination of physical and mental health. In this final example the player's Mii is situated between multiple color-coated balls, each showing specific numbers, with the goal to swing your hips, hula style, in different directions to tap out a total of ten as many times as possible before time runs out.

Key Game Features

  • The range of games and customization options will make players want to play every day. They’ll be having so much fun that their workouts will seem to fly by in no time at all.

5 out of 5 stars Great, fun, EASY way to keep in shape   March 20, 2010
frozen01 (Elmhurst, IL United States)
I got my Wii Fit about two weeks ago, and already I'm feeling more energetic and more toned than I was before!

I used to have a gym membership. The workouts were mind-numbingly boring and repetitive, and I HATED going. I had to keep my iPhone stocked with games, books, TV shows, and movies to get me through my workout. Even worse, after six months of going to the gym 2-3 times a week and working out for 1-2 hours each time, I wasn't losing any weight. So I was really skeptical when my friend got her Wii Fit and she told me she lost 10 lbs in two months. I decided to try it though, because although I tend to be a bit lazy, I'm also really competitive so I thought it might help. And it has! The best part is that the games are not repetitive, and they keep your mind occupied and entertained so much that you don't really even realize that you're getting a good workout. After the first few times that I used the Wii Fit, I never thought that I'd lose much weight. I mean, the games were so simple, and I wasn't breaking a sweat or anything. But only two weeks later, working out 3-5 times a week, I'm seeing an improvement already. My stomach is flatter, for one, and I just feel better. Already, my weight is starting to tick down just a little bit, and at this rate, I think I'll start to see more significant weight loss here very shortly. And that hour that I'm working out just flies by.
The games are so much fun that we even play the Wii Fit at parties. The snowball fights are my favorite, but there's also skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, bicycling, jogging, boxing, kung fu, soccer, an obstacle course, and even this cute little game where you flap your arms like a bird to fly between checkpoints (that one is a hit at parties because you look really ridiculous but it is a lot of fun). I usually stick to the games, but they also have yoga and aerobics for the more fitness-minded. I'm not really into yoga, but I have tried a few of the aerobics and I like what they've done. They make you focus on keeping your balance, so your mind is, once again, occupied with keeping your balance correct and your score high rather than on any tedium. So rather than just repeating the same motion over and over, each time is a challenge to keep that dot in the circle (representing your center of balance) and outdo your last score. You also have a "personal trainer" to give you tips and encouragement, and the simple "body tests" make it easy to stay focused on your goal.

Bottom line: Wii Fit makes working out fun instead of a chore, and despite the simplicity of the games, and the fact that it really doesn't feel like a workout, you still get results. Lots of variety and challenge means you'll never be bored. Added bonus is that the cost of the Wii Fit equals about 2-5 months of gym membership, so you end up saving a ton of money too. If you're trying to decide between the Wii Fit and the Wii Fit Plus, definitely go with the Plus!!!

3 out of 5 stars Good for out-of-shape types   March 20, 2010
Skylar H. Burris (United States)
Recommended for:

Adults who are out-of-shape, non-athletic, easily bored by exercise, and don't like gyms, but who want to get into the habit of doing a light workout on a daily basis to burn a few calories and gradually lose a few pounds. Young kids who are relatively new to gaming and want to enjoy some fun games that involve movement. (Kids should not use the BMI measurement or wii fit tests, however, as these will be highly inaccurate for children.) Families who want do so some fun, active, light gaming together.

Not recommended for:

Athletic people; people who already like to work out regularly; people who want to build muscle mass; people who want to do cardio exercise.

What I like:

I can exercise in the privacy of my own home. There's enough variety to keep me fairly interested. I can measure and chart my weight, minutes exercising on the wii, and calories burned daily. I can set a daily calorie burn goal and it tell me after each activity how far I need to go to meet it. I can customize a routine of strength and yoga exercises, allowing for the type and variety I want.

What I don't like:

I can't add aerobics to the customized routine. This is a serious flaw. Why only strength and yoga? Not being able to customize an aerobics workout means too much rest and down time, because you have to keep changing exercises and clicking through screens, and so you rarely get a steady long-term aerobics routine going. I should be able to follow my two planks and two lunges by two hula hoops and two rhythm parades, if I want.

The scale and trainer keep talking to you, saying the same things over and over, which slows you down and requires you to click through screens. Once it's told you a fitness tip or how to do an exercise, it should never repeat it. The trainer and scale should just shut up. It's this sort of thing that means you have to spend about 40 minutes playing the game to get 20 minutes of solid exercise. The down times are nice when you are really out of shape and just adjusting to daily exercise, but once you are adjusted, they become a hindrance to picking up the pace.

I can't customize exactly how many minutes I want to do an aerobics game. Yes, after you successfully play a game a few times, it unlocks more advanced levels, so you can go from 3 minutes of hulu hoiop to 6 and then 10, 10 minutes of step to 20...but I should be able to enter exactly how many minutes I want to do each exercise, and I should be able to do it from the start, because most people will not need to "work up" to 6 minutes of hula hoop or 20 minutes of low-impact step.

About the games:

Wii fit tests--useless. Don't bother with the tests. Just weigh and then continue.

Aerobics & Training Plus Games--More variety and longer durations needed. For exercise, I mostly use the hula hoop and rhythm parade.

Balance games--Fun. These are the most fun for the kids, I think. Useless as far as exercise is concerned, but fun.
Strength: There should be regular push-ups as well as push-up with plank, and there should be sit-ups.

Yoga--I can't balance to do more than three of these.

All in all, this is a good product for someone such as me. It has me exercising regularly, and I don't get nearly as bored nearly as fast. It has me keeping an eye on my weight. I would like to see more aerobics exercises, the ability to choose duration, the ability to customize using all games, and the ability to track your calorie intake / food diary.

Purchased this as a gift for my wife but the whole family benefits from it. Great fun for the money.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Work Out!   March 18, 2010
NowFit (TUCSON, AZ, US)

This is a brilliant way to work out, have fun and tone your body. The system sets goals for you, you can program your workout to do the same thing each time or vary it yourself. I could not be more pleased. I've used it for a little less than three weeks and have lost 6 pounds and am much more fit and trim than I have been in quite some time. The kids love it too! I would recommend this product to anyone and everyone!

4 out of 5 stars Fit and Fun   March 17, 2010
Jane Doe (USA)
Great way to help you stay in shape.I wouldn't recommend using this in place of real exercise, but I have heard of people losing a good amount of weight with the wii fit. It has fun games and a nice range of fitness activities. There is an aerobic step you can do that you can watch tv while you step, love it!
